We feel incredibly lucky to have found Karen and Chico Cotons. We have welcomed two of her Cotons into our family over the years—one is now 8 and the other is 4—and they are both absolutely wonderful dogs. They couldn’t be more different from each other in personality, which makes us appreciate even more how thoughtfully Karen matched each of them with our family.
From the very beginning, it was clear that Karen doesn’t simply breed puppies and find them homes. She takes the time to get to know the people who will be bringing them home. She interviewed us, learned about our family and lifestyle, and used her knowledge of each puppy’s temperament to help make the right match. In both cases, she got it right.
Our dogs are beautiful, healthy, loving, funny, and such an important part of our family. Cotons are a very special breed, and Karen’s puppies are a reflection of how much care and love she puts into what she does.
What has also meant a lot to us is that our relationship with Karen didn’t end when we brought our puppies home. We’ve stayed in touch over the years, shared photos and updates, and she has continued to genuinely care about them and enjoy watching them grow.
Karen is an ethical, thoughtful breeder who does this because she truly loves these dogs. After two wonderful experiences with Chico Cotons—and two dogs we can’t imagine our lives without—we couldn’t recommend her more highly.

After retiring to our mountain cabin, it was clear that a priority was to bring some canine companions into our lives. We cast our net far and wide in looking for the perfect breed. When we visited Karen’s Chico Coton’s we knew our search was over. We got not one but two brothers, Chico and Koda. Now, eight years later, we realize what a perfect fit they have been. They are incredibly loving lap dogs and so sensitive to us, yet strong and love indoor games, and the great outdoors, hiking, paddle boarding, chasing squirrels, and at the end of the day they join us on the sofa to cuddle in thankfulness. They are a ten out of ten!

Chico Cotons is the best! Karen does a wonderful job socializing and preparing her puppies for their forever homes. They are raised in her home with her family and have been exposed to many different adventures in the world outside.
Daisy is our second Coton from Karen and we get many compliments on what a wonderful, friendly , mellow and beautiful little girl that she is.

I cannot say enough about Chico Cotons……..Karen is an amazing loving and caring breeder! Throughout the whole process, she was such a wonderful communicator. I made numerous phone calls and texts to her while anxiously awaiting for my puppy and she always took so much time on the phone with me and responded quickly. Once the puppies were born, Karen was sending updates and pictures on a regular basis as well as the fact she was socializing them immediately when they were old enough to do so.
Also, trust Karen in advising you on which puppy is best suited for you. She absolutely knows the temperament and personalities of her dogs. I am in my early 70’s and after having dogs since I was 4 years old, I was looking for a dog that would be an easy dog for me. There were two puppies that I was between and Karen knew exactly which one would be the right fit. Charlie is just the best and is the chillest, most affectionate and easiest dog I have ever owned!

Our little guy is a sweetheart. Toshi is so easy-going and has an adaptable silliness that keeps us laughing. He is the perfect match for the two of us as we move into retirement.

I can really see the difference that Karen’s commitment to Puppy Culture makes. Of course, when we introduced him to our home, we took things slow (and had plenty of treats). It never takes long for Toshi to get comfortable with new people, noises, and experiences. That’s all Karen and Puppy Culture’s influence.
From application, our first call, and then our baby coming home, Karen has been wonderful to work with. She and I still stay in touch, sharing pictures and stories of our pup. We know that we can continue to count on her for advice and insights as Toshi grows.
